Coulthurst, Cottam et al: From Lancashire into the West Riding of Yorkshire
Pam Griffiths
Coulthurst, Cottam et al really belongs to the history of the Parks - also on this website - but that book became too long and so I abstracted the story of the family of the mother of John Park of Liverpool to make a separate account. The Coulthursts hailed from Great Mitton - now all Lancashire, but then split between Lancashire and Yorkshire - as did the Cottams and Reads. However, with the Illingworths and their kin, the Wilcocks the story moves to Yorkshire, principally Grindleton, Bolton-by-Bowland and Gisburn. Other pertinent names include Almond, Brigg, Read and Brooke and Parkinson, Scotte and Ellill.
Five years on from the original account, further research in Ribchester and Great Mitton parishes has unearthed more Cottams and Reades along with ancestors named Sowerbutts, Tomlinson, Dewhurst, Brooke and Goodday and possibly Barton and Kighley.
A tree showing this branch of the family can be found at Ancestors of Miriam Coulthurst.
