Over the years, I have transcribed or made abstracts from a huge number of wills as they are one of the best resources for piecing families together. The first batch of these to appear on this site comprises wills to be found in The National Archives or in The Principal Probate Registry and includes the following surnames: Austen, Barham, Brown, Curtis, Dagnall, Findlay, Fuller, Gibbon, Gra(i)nge, Grantham, Kettle, Lake, Lorkyn, Matresse, Norman, Orglasse, Per(r)yn, Porter, Richardson, Saxby, Scotts, Whitmell. Entries come from the following counties: Bucks, Cambs, Durham, Herts, Kent, Middlesex, Northants, Staffs, Surrey, Sussex. Some are full transcripts; others brief abstracts, but hopefully with enough information for the reader to know whether it is worth ordering a copy. They can be found at Will Transcripts from the National Archives and there is also an Index available.
Transcripts and extracts from wills held in Bucks & Herts with a few from Beds & Hunts can be found at Bucks Wills. They are indexed at Bucks Index. Some entries for Northamptonshire are at Northants Wills and they are indexed at Northants Index. A few Lancashire and West Riding of Yorkshire wills are at Lancs Wills and they are indexed at Lancashire and Yorkshire Index. Even fewer Oxfordshire wills are at Oxford Wills and indexed at Oxford Index. A handful of Staffs & Salop wills are at Staffordshire and Shropshire Wills and indexed at Staffordshire and Shropshire Index. A very few Essex wills and extracts - for Bard, Meade, Peacock, Pledger, Potter and Smith are at Essex Wills. There is also a small number of Suffolk wills at Suffolk Wills indexed at Suffolk Index, and a few Cambridge wills at Cambridge Wills indexed at Cambridge Index. A fair number of wills from Kent with a few from nearby Sussex parishes can be accessed at Kent and Sussex Wills, with an index at Kent and Sussex Index.
Please refer back to the originals if you find something of interest, as I am quite capable of mis-transcribing.
