Browns, Odells and Scotts or Scutts in London, Fife, Perthshire and Wiltshire
Pam Griffiths
This account, Jessie Brown's Lot, deals with one of many Brown families. This branch was based in Camberwell, Peckham and Streatham for about a hundred years leading up to World War II, but before that, roots are to be found in Leven and Crieff in Scotland. In London they married into a branch of the Odells, originally from Bedfordshire, but based in central and then south London for most of the 19th century. In turn, they connect to the Scotts family, originating in Wiltshire as Scutts before migrating to London. Other surnames linked by marriage to these three include: Anderson, Cram, Christon, McAra, Lawrence, Barclay and Kinnair in Scotland; Thompson and Smith in London, and Holborough in Wiltshire. Since writing the original account, further detail has been unearthed about the Lawrence family. This can be found at Jessie Brown's Lot: Appendix.
Three trees in pdf format complement those in the text: Hourglass Tree of William George Brown, Brown, Lawrence, Kinnair and Barclay, and Odell, Scotts or Scutts and Holborough.
